PF CANT FIND CANDIDATES

By SUFZ Staff

Former Nchanga Member of parliament (MP) Charles Chimumbwa has charged that the Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata is not as popular as he thinks going by the number of people applying to stand on his party’s ticket.

Mr. Chimumbwa said in some provinces especially in the ruling party strongholds the PF had not received any application from members to contest on the PF ticket for both parliamentary and local government seats.

He gave the example of Southern Province where out of 19 Constituencies only 1 person has applied to contest on the PF ticket. Only four have applied for the 17 Western Province seats  and in North-western Province only two people have applied out of the 14 seats.

Mr. Chimumbwa who is former PF General Secretary said in the Eastern Province Mr. Sata was banking on George Zulu for Luangeni, Lameck Mangani for Chipata and there was no guarantee that they would win because they had let people down.

In Central Province the PF had not yet identified candidates for all the constituencies and Mr. Sata was waiting like a vulture for rejects from the MMD as he had done in the Eastern Province and elsewhere.

“One would wonder how the opposition PF is looking forward to winning this year’s elections.  Zambia is made up of 150 constituencies and a person who is going to win the elections is supposed to have representation in all the constituencies,’ he said.

Mr. Chumbwa wondered where Mr. Sata was going to get votes when his party had no candidates in about three provinces.

He said as at now the only political party with candidates countrywide was the ruling MMD.  He said with the development going on throughout the country people by now knew the kind of a person President Rupiah Banda was and they had no reason to doubt his capability.  Mr. Chimumbwa said Mr. Banda had already shown the country what he is made of and he is the real man of the people.
